13 Stitches - Review by Tom Fiend

13 Stitches

2009 has been a stellar year for horror rock in Brisbane. From the very first Dead Of Winter festival, to the touring of such icons as Deathstars and the 69 eyes. Evidence of this emerging grimly fiendish fetish Brisbane is holding dear is obvious in the forming of the 13 Stitches. Comprised of horror veterans Drag Fiend and Jack Skullz teamed with two brutal shredding dynamo’s fresh from their last band happy camper Morg and Rob. Now christened Z and Earl Graves they lather on the blood, pick up their instruments, slam down a bottle of Jack Daniels and get a little too friendly with a fresh corpse.

Having played only one gig thus far, supporting American industrial “rock” outfit Hanzel Und Gretyl, the Stitches have already lined up a further 5 gigs running into next year including a set at the second ever Dead of Winter Festival to be hosted at the Jubilee hotel. Morg’s brutal yet audible vocals in combination with technical guitar work and disgustingly compelling lyrics makes this outfit a must see show for any fans of Frankenstein Drag Queens and Calabrese.

Currently right in the centre of the most competitive era of horror rock possible, these boys are flourishing in the battle to win a support act for the ever idolised band and modern horror pioneers Wednesday13. They have also recently release a split EP with sister band The Tropical Vampirates which is available through Dead Records.
